Obligations and Code of Conduct for Players and Parents

The Dartmouth Youth Activities Association is dedicated to helping youth learn good sportsmanship, competitive spirit, fair play and the fundamentals of baseball, football and basketball.  Organized sports involves teaching children the aspects of teamwork, the virtues of character, courage, and loyalty, a respect of authority and the self-discipline that will enable our youth to lead our nation tomorrow.

All managers, coaches, players, parents and spectators are hereby notified that league rules prohibit anyone from harassing any umpire, player, opposing player, manager, coach or league official. Use of obscene language or gestures is unsportsmanlike and will not be tolerated at any time.  Any action is grounds for immediate ejection.  There is to be no use of tobacco products while on school grounds and no alcohol or drug usage while in contact with the players. Team managers are responsible for the good conduct of their coaches, players, parents and spectators during games.

Persons found violating this Code during a game will be subject to ejection from that game.  If at any time the conduct of a manager, coach, player, parent or spectator is determined to be detrimental and/or contrary to the best interests of the League, the DYAA Board of Directors retains the right to suspend that person from further participation of any kind and for whatever period of time is deemed reasonable and proper by the Board.

Players: You are expected to respect all managers, coaches, umpires/referees and officials at all times.  What they say goes.  You are expected to respect your teammates and your opponents (encourage them with positive comments and they’ll do the same for you).  Be on time to practices and games.  If you cannot be there be sure to give your coach ample warning, your team is expecting you to be there and to do the very best you can at all times.

Managers, coaches, players, parents and spectators are all representatives of their team and bound by the DYAA Obligations and Code of Conduct.  It is imperative that parents conduct themselves in a proper manner at all times during the sports season.  In the event that an individual’s conduct is not acceptable, the Board of Directors may take disciplinary action that may include suspension of an offending parent’s player from the program.

Obligations and Code of Conduct for Players and Parents

Parents Pledge

My child and I have read and understand the Obligations and Code of Conduct for Players and Parents.  Therefore I will:

  • Remember that children are involved in organized sports for their enjoyment, not mine.
  • Teach my child that hard work and an honest effort are more important then a victory.
  • Help my child work toward skill improvement and good sportsmanship in every game.  My child will then be a winner, even in defeat.
  • Not ridicule my child or others for making a mistake during a game.
  • Set a good example.  I understand that children learn best by good examples.
  • Applaud good plays by members of our team and by members of the opposing team.
  • Show respect for the umpires/referees at all times in words and deeds.  Accept decisions of officials as being fair and called to the best of their ability.
  • Recognize the value and importance of volunteer coaches and officials and give them due respect.
  • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from youth sporting activities.
